![]() ![]() Lost all my stuff.but the Mac is up and running as we speak (and faster than what I remember). Worked, reset admin password, but it wanted the OS reinstalled. Apple does not do a good job of explaining this in their support documents because they do not want to admit the vulnerability, so instead they falsely claim that OPs iMac is not capable of having a Firmware Password even though. Performed a PRAM reset, which never worked when I tried months ago but figured what the heck. However its known that older Intel models are vulnerable to having their password reset via hardware intervention. I teach a high school video production class, macs all day long ironically, and I have a few things related to the class on the hard drive, as well as personal photos, some music, and what not.Īny advice/help is appreciated redditors. I'm weighing my options from doing research, anything from pulling the drive out and recovering what I can and resetting it to brute forcing the 6 digits. I purchased the iMac used from Best Buy's family and friends private auction store about two years ago.Īpparently the apple store is of no help since I don't have the original purchase receipt and to add salt to the wound, they told me my 2007-2008 iMac may be obsolete and they may not service them at all. I had never set this up but after further research it's pretty much the same thing as a locked iPhone, meaning whoever owned the computer before me had their icloud tied to it still. I was greeted a few weeks ago to not my typical mac log in screen but a window requesting a 6 digit pin. The only way to have this unlocked is either type in the 4 or 6 digit code that was set up on the iCloud webpage when locking the mac or take the machine to an Apple Store or authorized service provider to have them unlock the machine but they will need to verify that your account locked the machine etc.
